该剧讲述了晓舞靠自己的能力艰难地活在大城市里，一夜之间莫名被总经理辞退，从此生活跌入谷底，也相继遇上了各种各样的奇葩事；不仅撞见相亲失败的总经理，莫名其妙发现身体里有另一个自己，隔三差五梦游吓人不说，还和总经理崔子卡开始了鸡飞狗跳的合租生活……。本片是为一个长达一周的反战示威而拍的，该示威的主题是“愤怒的艺术家反对战争”。当时，关于“越战”的尖锐争论正在把美国人分成两个阵营，而我们可以把这部影片看做是斯科塞斯的政治表态。全片长6分钟，用恐怖的画面表现了一个年轻人如何对自己的脸进行摧残。该片参加了1968年在比利时举办的雅克·勒杜实验电影节（Jacques Ledoux’s 1968 Festival of Experimental Cinema），并且获得了“金色时光奖”（Le Prix de L’Age d’Or）。拍摄该片所用的10卷爱克发彩色胶片系由比利时电影艺术馆赞助。由斯科塞斯自编自导的《剃须记》是一个关于自我毁灭的血腥寓言。。Adapted by Virginie Verrier and Brigitte Tanguy from the biography Ne jamais rien lâcher, the script traces the career of Marinette Pichon over three decades.
